Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our domain registration services.

What's the difference between a .co.za and a .com domain?

.co.za domains are South African country-code domains, ideal for local businesses targeting SA audiences. .com domains are generic top-level domains (gTLDs) with global reach. For best visibility, consider registering both. .co.za domains are often cheaper and help establish local credibility.

Can I transfer my existing domain to Rackzar?

Yes! Transferring is simple. You'll need your domain's authorization code from your current registrar. The transfer typically completes within 5-7 business days with no downtime. Your domain registration period extends by one year upon successful transfer.

What's included in WHOIS privacy?

WHOIS privacy protects your personal information by replacing your details with our company information in the public WHOIS database. This prevents spam, unsolicited contact, and identity theft. Email forwarding to your real address still works transparently.

How do I point my domain to my website hosting?

You'll need to update your domain's nameservers or DNS records to point to your hosting provider. We provide a step-by-step guide in your control panel. Our support team can assist if you need help with the setup.

Are there renewal reminders and auto-renewal options?

Yes. We send renewal reminders 60 and 30 days before expiration. You can enable auto-renewal to automatically extend your domain each year. This prevents accidental expiration and keeps your domain active continuously.

Do you support DNSSEC for my domain?

Yes, DNSSEC is supported on most TLDs. It adds a layer of security by signing your DNS records, preventing DNS hijacking and spoofing attacks. Enable it in your control panel with just a few clicks.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), EFT transfers, and PayPal. Monthly invoicing is available for business accounts. All transactions are encrypted and PCI-DSS compliant.

Can I use your domains with Rackzar hosting?

Absolutely! Integrating your Rackzar domain with your Rackzar hosting is seamless. Our system can automatically configure DNS records. We also support domains registered elsewhere—you're not locked in.

How long does domain registration take?

Most domains are activated instantly after registration and payment. However, DNS propagation can take 24-48 hours to fully propagate globally. Your domain is registered and secured immediately, but may take up to 2 days to be fully accessible worldwide.

Can I register multiple domains at once?

Yes! You can register as many domains as you need in a single transaction. Bulk domain registration saves time and lets you secure multiple domain variations or extensions at once. Multi-year registration options are also available for added convenience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our SSL certificate services.

Standard vs Wildcard SSL certificates?

Standard SSL certificates secure a single domain (e.g., www.example.com). Wildcard SSL certificates secure an unlimited number of subdomains of that domain (e.g., *.example.com), including www.example.com, mail.example.com, and any other subdomain you create. Wildcard certificates are ideal if you have multiple subdomains.

How long does it take to get an SSL certificate?

Most of our SSL certificates are issued within 5 minutes after domain validation is complete. Domain validation is usually instant via email or DNS verification. Some certificates may take up to 24 hours depending on the validation method and certificate authority processing times.

Can I use one SSL certificate on multiple servers?

Yes! All our SSL certificates come with unlimited server licensing. You can install your certificate on as many servers as you need without additional cost. Simply generate a new CSR (Certificate Signing Request) for each server and the certificate will work seamlessly.

What is domain validation and how does it work?

Domain validation is a verification process that confirms you own or control the domain. We offer multiple validation methods: email verification (click a link in an email), DNS verification (add a DNS record), or HTTP verification (place a file on your website). Choose the method that works best for you.

Do I need to install the certificate myself?

Our certificates require installation on your server. Most hosting control panels (cPanel, Plesk, etc.) have built-in SSL installation tools. If you need help, our support team can provide step-by-step guidance or documentation specific to your hosting environment.

What browsers and devices does the SSL certificate support?

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Proxmox Subscriptions.

What is a Proxmox subscription?

A Proxmox subscription provides access to professional support services and is a service programme designed to help IT professionals and businesses keep their Proxmox deployments up-to-date. Each subscription includes access to the Proxmox Enterprise Repository, stable software updates, technical support based on your subscription level, and email notifications about new packages.

What is the Enterprise Repository?

The Proxmox Enterprise Repository is the default, stable, and recommended repository for production deployments. It provides thoroughly tested software packages, stable updates that won't break your systems, security patches, and regular maintenance updates. We recommend using it for all production servers.

How do I purchase a subscription in South Africa?

As an authorized Proxmox reseller, Rackzar makes it easy to purchase subscriptions. Visit my.rackzar.com/store/proxmox-subscriptions, call us at 087 550 1553, email sales@rackzar.com, or book a free consultation call. After purchase, you'll receive a welcome email with your subscription key and activation instructions.

How do I activate my subscription key?

Log in to your Proxmox web interface, select your node, click the "Subscription" tab, then click "Upload Subscription Key" and enter your key. Each subscription key is bound to your server's unique "Server ID" and is regularly checked for validity.

How many CPU sockets does my server have?

Go to your Proxmox web interface, select your node, and go to the "Summary" tab. The CPU name and socket count will be listed there. A CPU socket is the physical connector on the motherboard where a CPU is installed. A dual-processor server has 2 CPU sockets, even if each CPU has multiple cores.

How many subscriptions do I need?

Each physical server needs its own subscription containing the right CPU socket count. Each subscription key is bound to the unique "Server ID" of your server. For example, if you have 3 physical servers each with 2 CPU sockets, you need 3 separate subscriptions, each covering 2 CPU sockets.

What are cluster subscription requirements?

In a Proxmox cluster, all nodes need the same subscription level. You cannot mix different tiers. For example, a 3-node cluster with 1 CPU socket per node requiring Standard subscriptions needs 3x "Proxmox Standard Subscription 1 CPU/year" – one for each node.

What does my subscription cover?

Subscriptions include: Enterprise Repository access, installation support, usage and configuration assistance, diagnosis and troubleshooting, and bug reports/fixes for Proxmox packages including Ceph. NOT included: modified packages, third-party software, code development, system design, security rules, backup strategies, or data recovery.

Where do I get technical support?

Premium, Standard, and Basic subscriptions receive support via the Proxmox Customer Portal at my.proxmox.com (English or German). Community subscriptions use the public forum at forum.proxmox.com. Rackzar also provides local South African support – contact sales@rackzar.com for details.

How do I receive software updates?

Information about new packages is sent via email to the root account. All updates are displayed in the web interface with changelogs. Updates can be applied directly through the web interface with just a few clicks.

Can I activate subscriptions on offline systems?

Yes! The 'proxmox-offline-mirror' tool manages subscription keys for air-gapped systems or systems without internet access. You need a subscription key for Proxmox Offline Mirror itself. Contact Rackzar at sales@rackzar.com or 087 550 1553 for details and pricing.

What subscription model does Proxmox use?

Subscriptions are based on the number of physical servers and their CPU sockets. Each physical server requires its own subscription, priced per CPU socket. In clusters, all nodes need the same subscription level. The subscription period is one year (12 months) from purchase.

What about nested virtualisation?

Nested virtualisation is when you run a hypervisor (like Proxmox) inside a virtual machine instead of on real hardware. Running Proxmox in such a nested setup is not covered by the support agreement.

How many support tickets do I get?

Each subscription level includes a certain number of support tickets (e.g., three for Basic). If you run two servers with two Basic Subscriptions (each with three tickets), you get three tickets for each server, six total.

What happens if I don't renew?

Your servers will continue to run without interruption. Proxmox never stops working. However, you'll lose Enterprise Repository access and technical support. You can switch to the community repository for updates. Subscriptions are for support and updates, never ransomware.

Can I upgrade my subscription level?

Yes! You can easily upgrade during your subscription period. Only the difference between subscription prices is charged. Contact Rackzar at sales@rackzar.com, call us on 087 550 1553

Can I downgrade my subscription?

Downgrades from a higher to lower subscription level are not possible during the one-year period. However, you can cancel after one year and order a new subscription level when you renew.

What are the pricing currencies?

When purchased through Rackzar, prices are displayed in South African Rand (ZAR). VAT will be added if applicable. All prices are net prices with a 12-month subscription period from purchase date.

What are the redistribution terms?

Redistributing software packages received under the Subscription Agreement to third parties or using subscription services for third-party benefit is a material breach, even if open-source licenses permit distribution. This doesn't interfere with individual package license rights.

What support is NOT included?

We don't support: modified packages, third-party software, community projects, code development, system/network design, security rule design, backup/recovery strategies, data recovery, or high availability design. Technical support only covers the latest stable release. Technology previews aren't supported in production.

Which Proxmox products can I subscribe to?

Rackzar offers subscriptions for three Proxmox products: Proxmox Virtual Environment (VE) for virtualisation, Proxmox Backup Server for enterprise backup solutions, and Proxmox Mail Gateway for email security. Each has four subscription tiers: Community, Basic, Standard, and Premium.
